Jesus’ final night with His disciples unfolded around a table, as they celebrated the Passover. Through symbols rooted in Israel’s story, they remembered how God had faithfully kept His promises—promises that ultimately led to the arrival of the Messiah.

On that night, Jesus introduced new symbols of His own, pointing forward to the promises of God that would be fulfilled through Him—on the cross and beyond.

When we are generous, we reflect the heart of God, who is the most generous giver.

This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. 1 John 3:16-18
